a million little peices...that's the book by james frey. its brilliant...and absolutely heartbreaking!
it opens with a story:

the old man came to the young man seeking counel.
i broke something, old man.
how badly is it broken?
its in a million little peices.
i'm afraid i can't help you.
why?
there's nothing you can do.
why?
it can't be fixed.
why?
because its in a million little peices.

its an account of the life of a cocaine addict and the way his life and that of all the others at the rehabilitation centre touch briefly and collapse. it breaks your heart because you know its true.
a must read.
